[ Blogger’s Preview on August 4th ]
How will London City fare in their opener following their high-profile recruitment drive? They face United—a formidable opponent, though one that has seen a sudden change in management. How will Liverpool, coming off a strong pre-season, perform in their first match? Arsenal and Chelsea face intriguing matchups against tough opponents in Brighton and Aston Villa, respectively. Meanwhile, defending champions City—who appear to be grappling with a number of injuries—take on newly promoted Birmingham.

[Overall Review]
It seems that struggling in the season opener is a universal experience, even for teams expected to finish at the top of the WSL table. Looking at last season’s top five, while City and Spurs won by a two-goal margin, Arsenal managed only a one-goal victory, Chelsea drew, and United lost. Liverpool’s 4-0 win against Charlton who came from the third place in Championship deserves special mention. The matches for Matchweek 2 are already highly anticipated, with the spotlight on United vs. Chelsea and Liverpool vs. Spurs.
