The opening match of the 2025/26 league took place between Chelsea and City on Friday night.
Chelsea won by a narrow 2-1 margin. City dominated the number of shots, but were unable to break down Chelsea’s defense and were suffocated by the opponent’s wing attacks.
Aoba Fujino’s absence was a big blow to City. POTMs (Players of the Matches) were Ellie Carpenter and Yui Hasegawa, respectively. It was a great game worthy of the opening match.
United won 4-0 against Leicester. Hinata Miyazawa played the full game.
Arsenal and Everton won 4-1 against London City and Liverpool, respectively. A total of six Japanese players played in these two matches. Saki Kumagai, Yuka Momiki, and Rion Ishikawa all played the full games.
Tottenham narrowly beat West Ham 1-0 on a late penalty kick. Toko Koga and Rico Ueki played the full game.
Brighton and Aston Villa played a scoreless draw. Moeka Minami played the full game.

Maika Hamano scored the winning goal in the opening match.
Risa Shimizu returned from injury and came on the pitch as a substitute.
Japanese defenders Saki Kumagai, Rion Ishikawa, Toko Koga, and Moeka Minami all played the full games in their WSL debuts. Especially, Koga was chosen as POTM.
