Overall review of .WE League Matchday 12: The top three teams remained in the same standings. Sendai slowly climbed to fourth place. The outstanding performance of some goalkeepers seems to be good news for women’s soccer in Japan. Haruna Aikawa scored a hat trick. Riko Yoshida scored her 10th goal to take the lead in the race for top scorer. 15-year-old Fuki Ito made her league debut.
Match 1: Saitama hosted Urawa in front of a crowd of 2,702 at Kawagoe Athletic Stadium, but was defeated 0-3. Urawa dominated the game with the number of shots they had, resulting in a well-deserved victory. Yuika Sugasawa made a comeback and immediately showed off her sophisticated post plays.
Match 2: In front of a packed crowd of 2,179 at Noevir Stadium Kobe, the home team won 5-0. With more than three times as many shots as Sagamihara, Kobe scored five goals. Haruna Aikawa had a fantastic performance, scoring one goal with her right foot, one with her head, and one with her left foot, and also recording one assist.
Match 3: In front of a crowd of 3,534 at Ajinomoto Field Nishigaoka, Beleza came from behind to win 2-1. Beleza’s veterans came into their own late in the game. Osaka couldn’t hold on to their lead. Beleza had two 15-year-olds on their bench for possible substitutions. Are they suffering from a high injury rate? Concerns are mounting with the ACL matches approaching.
Match 4: Chiba hosted Nagano in front of 1,646 fans at their home stadium, Fukuda Denshi Arena, and won 4-1. With twice as many shots on goal, Chiba won the match. Yuki Ogawa had two goals and one assist. 16-year-old Runa Sumiya delivered a good cross after dribbling through three opponents, and 18-year-old Ririka Nezu scored her first league goal.
Match 5: Omiya hosted Hiroshima in front of a crowd of 3,051 at their home stadium, NACK5 Stadium Omiya, and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Hiroshima took the lead with two goals in the first 9 minutes employing attacks from the right wing, but Omiya responded with corner kicks to tie the game within the first half. Both teams’ goalkeepers made some excellent saves, resulting in a very evenly matched game.
Match 6: Sendai hosted Niigata in front of 2,039 fans at Yurtec Stadium Sendai, winning 2-1. It was a great match with equal shots. Goalkeeper Shiori Shimizu’s saves were the key to Sendai’s success.

The relegation/promotion matches for the first and second divisions were held between Izumo and Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU). The results of the home and away matches were 1-0 and 1-3. With a total score of 2-3, NSSU remained in the first division, while Izumo would have to wait for the next opportunity.
