[Quarterfinals Review and Results]
Blogger’s Review: Four quarter-final matches were played, with Australia, China PR, Korea Rep., and Japan advancing to the semi-finals. Four of Asia’s top five teams, excluding Korea DPR, reached the semi-finals. Among four matches, Chinese Taipei’s valiant effort against China PR, which went into extra time, and the host nation Australia’s victory over strong contenders DPR Korea with two short counter-attacks, were particularly memorable.

QF1 (3/13) Australia 2-1 DPR Korea at Perth Rectangular Stadium (Perth / Boorloo)
Australia’s goals: A. Kennedy (9’), S, Kerr (47’)
DPR Korea’s goal: U.-Y. Chae (65’)
DPR Korea had 62% ball possession. Both of DPR Korea’s goals conceded originated from Australian striker S. Kerr stealing the ball from their backline during passing. The ball carriers were not paying enough attention to their surroundings, suggesting the team were in poor condition.

QF2 (3/14) China PR 2-0 (AET) Chinese Taipei at Perth Rectangular Stadium (Perth / Boorloo)
China PR’s goals: S. Ziqin (94′), Y.-H. Chen (118′, OG)
China PR dominated ball possession with 72%. Chinese Taipei’s goalkeeper S.-y. Cheng and defenders put up a strong fight, forcing the match into extra time, but China PR ultimately prevailed. 179cm tall center forward S. Ziqin made a significant impact.

QF3 (3/14) Korea Rep. vs Uzbekistan at Stadium Australia (Sydney / Gadigal)
Korea Rep.’s goals: 9′ H.-Y. Son (9’), Y.-J. Ko (20’), S.-J. Park (57’), S.-Y. Ji (72’), E.-Y. Lee (85’), S.-G. Jang (90’+3)
Korea Rep. had 81% ball possession. Korea Rep.’s shooting skills were outstanding. S.-Y. Ji shone. Six players were goal scorers for Korea Rep.

QF4 (3/15) Japan 7-0 Philippines at Stadium Australia (Sydney / Gadigal)
Japan’s goals: M. Tanaka (45′), T. Koga (45’+3, 76′), R. Chiba (65′), M. Matsukubo (67′),
M. Tanikawa (86′), R. Ueki (90′)
The Nadeshiko had 85% ball possession. They struggled to break down Philippines having their solid defense in the penalty box, but managed to score two goals at the end of the first half. In the second half, four substitute players scored four goals, resulting in a resounding victory. Their corner kicks in the first half and their attacks down the flanks in the second half were effective, but they need to improve their ability to score from mid-range.
