Two Nadeshiko-related individuals were honored at the 2025 awards ceremony of the NWSL, the US women’s soccer league, which was held last night.
Manaka Matsukubo, a 21-year-old from Kagoshima, was named to the Best Midfielder and Best XI.
Beverly Goebel-Yanez, a 37-year-old, who played for Kobe in the Nadeshiko League and was the league’s top scorer, won Coach of the Year as manager of Racing Louisville.
The followings are the statements from the NWSL website:
Midfielder of the Year: Manaka Matsukubo, North Carolina Courage
Manaka Matsukubo’s breakout season was rewarded with Midfielder of the Year honors. In her third season in the league, Manaka scored 11 goals and became the youngest player to score a hat trick in league history. Her four assists helped her Courage teammates find the back of the net, too.
Coach of the Year: Beverly Yanez, Racing Louisville
Bev Yanez led Racing Louisville to their best season yet. From their first playoff berth to winning the most games in club history, Yanez led Louisville to a better year than ever before.
