[UEFA Women’s Champions League (WCL) Matchday 5]
Overall Review: Nine matches were played over the midweek stretch, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
After the fifth matchday, Barcelona and OL Lyonnais lead with 4 wins, 1 draw, and 13 points. Behind the third-place Chelsea with 11 points, six teams are just within two points.
Just for your reminder: only the top four teams will advance directly to the quarterfinals. The remaining eight teams will compete for a spot in the quarterfinals through home and away (H&A) matches.
The next top-tier matches are scheduled to feature Wolfsburg (9) vs. Chelsea (11), and Juventus (10) vs. United (9). Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern, Lyonnais, and Real Madrid will likely get at least a draw. Therefore, 13-point is expected for the top four at least. This means Chelsea and Juventus will need to win, while Wolfsburg and United will be relying on others even if they win; that is, Wolfsburg and United need that Bayern and Real Madrid will draw or worse.
The remaining spots in the quarterfinals through H&A matches are being contested between OH Leuven, Atléti and Vålerenga, but they will all face strong opponents in the next matchday.
