The WE League kicked off its 2025-2026 season last weekend. Despite the unfortunate weather, the first week matches were packed with highlights. Niigata and Kobe both took the lead in the standings with 2-0 victories.
Of particular note was the match between last season’s champions, Beleza, and runners-up Kobe. Kobe’s Yui Narumiya delivered a strong performance, and Riko Yoshida scored her first goal since joining the team. The team gave the new manager three points. As expected, Kobe’s players roamed more freely under a female manager Tomomi Miyamoto.
Beleza played a balanced game throughout the match, but lacked decisiveness. Personally, I was pleased to see Rikako Kobayashi return to the pitch.
