Overall review: Chelsea’s unbeaten streak was brought to an end by Everton. City’s nine consecutive wins increased their points to 27, putting them six points ahead of second place. 2nd to 5th place are now between Chelsea, United, Arsenal and Tottenham, all included within two points. Liverpool are struggling with a winless record. Since lower-ranked teams’ defenses have improved, five games of this week were with a one-goal difference.

Match 1: Arsenal hosted Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, drawing a crowd of 34,345, and won 2-1. The first half was tied at 1-1, but Arsenal took the lead with an 87th-minute goal. While Arsenal’s victory was well deserved, as they dominated the number of touches in the opponent’s box and shots, Liverpool’s efforts to overcome the disadvantage were commendable. Fuka Nagano played the full game.

Match 2: Leicester City hosted City at King Power Stadium, losing 0-3. The score remained tied until the 70th minute, but City secured the victory with three goals in the remaining 16 minutes after substitute Kerolin came on. City dominated the number of shots, touches in the opponent’s box, and ball possession rate, resulting in a well-deserved victory. Ayaka Yamashita, Yui Hasegawa, and Aoba Fujino all played the full game.

Match 3: London City hosted Brighton & Hove at the Copperjax Community Stadium, losing 0-1. Kiko Seike scored the winning goal in the sixth minute. Despite having more shots and a better ball possession rate, London City suffered a disappointing loss. Both Moeka Minami and Kiko Seike played the full game.

Match 4: Tottenham hosted Aston Villa at BetWright Stadium and won 2-1. Villa took the lead in the 84th minute, but Tottenham scored two goals in the remaining minutes. Tottenham’s victory was well deserved, as they had more shots, more ball possession, and more touches in the opponent’s box, but the fact that the winning goal came in added time of the second half was dramatic. Maya Hijikata made her WSL debut. Toko Koga was on the bench but did not play.

Match 5: The match, which drew a crowd of 2,705 at Progress with Unity Stadium to host West Ham, ended in a 2-1 victory for United. With the score tied, United scored the winning goal in the 71st minute. United’s victory was well deserved, as they dominated the number of shots, ball possession, and touches in the opponent’s box, but West Ham’s efforts were also outstanding. Riko Ueki recorded an assist. Hinata Miyazawa and Yu Endo played the full game.

Match 6: Chelsea hosted Everton at their home ground, Kingsmeadow, and lost 0-1. It was Everton who ended Chelsea’s unbeaten streak in the WSL (585 days, 34 matches since May last year). Chelsea dominated in shots, ball possession, and touches in the opponent’s box, but were unable to score. Honoka Hayashi, who scored the winning goal in the 12th minute, played the full game.
