Excuse me please. The England WSL matches week 18 were held concurrently with the Asian Cup Final. Since I lack the capacity to cover everything, this post will be a simplified one again.
[Blogger’s Overall Review of the Week 18]
With the Asian Cup participants absent, three of the top four teams, excluding Chelsea, have secured victories. The title race appears to have narrowed down to City and Arsenal. Chelsea will likely compete with United for a Women’s Champions League (WCL) spot.
Arsenal have won eight matches in a row besides draws in between. Everton’s winning streak came to an end at four. Leicester City’s remaining matches are against mid-table or higher opponents and, therefore, their avoiding last place may be difficult.
Here’s a list of the remaining four matches for the top four teams. Generally, a points difference equal to the number of games to be played can be overcome, so a four-point difference is a benchmark for winning the title. Only fourth-placed Arsenal, with two fewer matches played, is within four points of City.
City (46 points) will face United, Brighton & Hove, Liverpool, and West Ham. Their FA Cup quarter-final match (against Birmingham City) is scheduled after their United match. The Manchester derby is considered a crucial point.
United (38 points) will face City, Tottenham, Brighton & Hove, and Chelsea. Their WCL home & away matches against Bayern Munich are scheduled before and after their City match.
Chelsea (37 points) will face Aston Villa, Everton, Leicester City, and United. Their WCL away & home matches against Arsenal are scheduled before and after their Aston Villa match, followed immediately by their FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham.
Arsenal (35 points) is the only team with 6 games remaining, facing Tottenham, Aston Villa, Leicester City, Everton, Brighton, and Liverpool. Their WCL home and away matches against Chelsea are scheduled before and after their Tottenham match, followed immediately by their FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton & Hove.
Arsenal’s maximum points total is 53 if they win all 6 of their remaining matches. City will surpass this with 55 points if they win 3 more matches. They will also win the championship with 54 points even with 2 wins and 2 draws.
